In November 2009, I worked on India’s first exhibition on Durries (hand woven rugs), in Jodhpur. I was critically involved with the team designing its layout and the execution; specifically the design of the display system for the tools in durrie weaving. Traditional huts were constructed and used to display the exhibit artefacts.
Niches, commonly found in vernacular huts were used to house the display of the technical instruments used in the weaving process.
The exhibit was laid out in a rural setting, indicative of the life of the craftsmen who create the weaves. Each hut housed a different aspect of the durrie weaving process.
Inside the huts, durries of varying weaves and patterns were exhibited.
